When are lessons?
- School-year Lessons begin the week of Aug. 29th and end in May. There will be no lessons the week of Thanksgiving, the 2 weeks of Christmas break, and the week of Spring Break. Please visit calendar page for exact information about when lessons begin and end for the semester, and recital and festival dates.
- Lessons may be scheduled at anytime that a teacher has an available slot.
- If you need a lesson slot outside of the times offered, don’t hesitate to contact us! We will be able to find a teacher to meet your needs.
What if I miss a lesson?
- With the payment of tuition, a lesson slot is reserved in Velocity Music Academy’s teaching schedule for the student every week that the studio is open. As long as tuition is current, the student has the freedom to choose not to come to a lesson, without risk of losing his/her place in the studio. If you miss a lesson, there will be no credits or refunds given.
- If you anticipate missing a lesson in advance, please contact Velocity or your private teacher.
- Students are allowed 1 make-up lesson per Semester.
- If you just do not show up for a lesson, no make-up lesson will be offered.
What type of technology is used at Velocity Music Academy
- Technology at Velocity Music Academy is used at almost each lesson, with every age of student. Digital pianos are used to help students explore their pieces through different sounds, utilizing recordings on the keyboard for self-analysis, and through use of accompaniments as a metronome device to develop stable rhythm. At Velocity Music Academy, students also have the capability of recording their performances and save them as MP3s for e-mailing or to put on their iPods or other MP3 players. Every student does a year-round recording project, with a final CD of their performances completed at the end of the school year
- Computers are available for students to participate in music theory programs to enforce theory concepts, use composition programs to notate their pieces, and recording software to record and orchestrate their learned pieces and individual compositions.
What type of lessons are offered over the summer?
- Velocity Music Academy offers both traditional lesson over the summer and group music camps.
Why are summer lessons important?
- Students who do not take summer lessons digress in their playing abilities. Scheduling Summer lessons over the summer break is an optimum way of keeping up one’s skills. Summer lessons are also a great time to focus on issues that students may not have time to focus on over the school year, such as composition, improvisation, study of music history, learning duets, learning jazz pieces, etc.
- If you do not choose to take Summer lessons or participate in one of the music camps, your spot for the fall is not guaranteed and the enrollment fee will be charged to your first month of lessons when you return.
What type of music is taught at Velocity Music Academy?
- Music is assigned to students that is appropriate for their age and interest level. All piano students study the 4 main genres of piano music: baroque, classical, romantic, and contemporary. We also love to teach pieces that are motivators for students, such as movie pieces, pop pieces, jazz, contemporary Christian, ragtime, etc. We are not trying to train students to be competitors in music, but rather develop a love of playing an instrument. We do enroll students who are at the advanced level and wish to study music in college. For them, their skill levels are pushed a bit harder. However, are our students picking up music and playing for friends and relatives during the holidays? Do our students sit down at the piano or pick up their instrument and play for fun? Then we have succeeded.
