Charles S. Lee, Saxophone

Charles Lee has studied music at some of the most prestigious schools in the country. He received a Bachelor’s in Music from Berklee College of Music, a Master’s of Arts from New York University, and a Performer Diploma from Indiana University at Bloomington. He is currently a Doctoral student at University of Texas at Austin, with an emphasis in Jazz and Commercial music.

Charles has also studied with some of today’s most acclaimed musicians and educators, such as jazz saxophonist Chris Potter, Lennie Pickett of the Saturday Night Live Band, smooth jazz saxophonist Walter Beasley, David Liebman of the late Miles Davis fusion group, free jazz saxophonist George Garzone, and jazz pedagogy pioneer Dr. David Baker.

Charles’ awards include assistantships at the University of Texas and Indiana University, a full scholarship to Berklee College of Music, and selection for the 1999 MENC All-Eastern Jazz Ensemble which performed at Carnegie Hall with John Faddis.

Tzuying Huang, Clarinet

Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Tzuying Huang began her clarinet studies at the age of nine. She received her Bachelors Degree from the National Taiwan University of Education in 2007, and her Masters Degree from Indiana University Bloomington in 2010. She is currently studying for her doctoral degree with full scholarship at The University of Texas at Austin with Professor Nathan Williams.  Her former principal teachers were Bill Chen, Ching-Chung Lin and James Campbell.

Miss Huang was the first prize winner of the 2011 National Coeur D’Alene Symphony Young Artist Competition, the 2011 Mid-Texas Symphony Young Artist Competition, the 2009 Showcase of the Arts Annual Competition of The National Society of Arts and Letters (Bloomington Indiana Chapter), the 2010 Butler School of Music Concerto Competition, and the 2006 Taipei University of Education Concerto Competition.  She also was awarded an honorable mention in the 2011 National Midland-Odessa Symphony Young Artist Competition.  She has performed as concerto soloist with Coeur D’Alene Symphony, the UT Austin Symphony Orchestra, and the Taipei University of Education Symphony Orchestra.

She was awarded a fellowship to attend the Tanglewood Music Festival during the summer of 2011 under the direction of James Levine.  She has also participated in music festivals at the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada, the Young Artist Chamber Music Program of the National Art Centre (under the direction of Pinchas Zukerman) and has been an associate member of the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami, Florida and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
